Kind of a lousy way to make money

Well, my foray into options trading took an unexpected turn when Steve Jobs announced he was taking another medical leave and AAPL shares plunged at the open this morning: I took my Feb 350-330 put spread off the table a little after 10 Eastern, when Apple was trading around $333.30. The end result was an […]

Catching a knife at the supermarket — SVU

I have been following Supervalu for almost the nine month life of this site and finally took a bite this afternoon, and bought 1000 shares at $8.64: This supermarket chain was once considered a buy here at 13 last June, but has recently dropped onto the 52-week low list: So I am now a proud […]

Sold after earnings! — CPWM

I unloaded my position in CPWM for $7.70  this Monday morning for a tidy profit of $2, 350.00. It only took 170 days (since June 4th) to close this trade! That’s about 2/3 of the existence of this web site, and by far the longest term hold I have had while trading here. Yes, I […]

Lets try BZQ again!

Looking at a quickie trade in BZQ (double short Brazil), which didn’t work out so well last time. But I picked up 1000 shares at the open today — we are at support and there is that nice gap at $22 from September 1st that I’m shooting for. Have a great weekend!

September starts with a positive gap fill!

As August went out with a whimper, September started right off with a nice fill of last weeks down gap. I sold my 150 shares of SPY for 108.18 — and a nice $486 profit: Sharp eyed observers will note that there now remains only two unfilled gaps on the S&P yearly chart — the […]

Gaps for Gamblers — LVS

Recently casino operator Las Vegas Sands has been throwing out some nice tradable down gaps, even as it’s overall performance looks comparably strong: All the gaps on that chart have filled, and most quickly, except for the mega-drop on June 29th, which took most of July to heal. But heal it did, so will will […]

Putting my money where my mouth is — SPY

I decided to liven up this blog a little and dumped my BZQ shares this morning, pretty much at a break even price. I then turned around and bought the market, playing for the S&P 1067 gap fill mentioned yesterday; 150 shares of SPY were scooped up at just under $150. Head and shoulders? Bah!

Why short Brazil?

Why short Brazil now? Well, there’s that Golden Cross out there, an RSI (2) of about 2, and three gaps to the upside in just the last week begging to be filled. There’s a clearly marked downside call-off point right under $23, too. And, all those unemployed soccer coaches, too. I picked up 600 shares […]

Trading through trouble

Trading is never an easy vocation, and when family crises intervene, things can get bad fast. Looks like that’s whats happened here, as I let one trade get away from me, and the “go-to” QLD trade has once again been found wanting (it’s negative for the year at this writing). At any rate, I sold […]

Quickie turnaround — (BZQ, QLD)

Family emergencies have kept me from posting much, or trading much, or studying much, but this morning with oversold readings flashing, i changed my positions: I sold my 400 shares of BZQ (short-Brazil) for $25.05. This made a profit of $500 before commissions on this trade. I then immediately bought 200 shares of QLD, as […]
